Gigs / Gossip Updated 8/02/2012

With the Ozzy dollar so high at the moment it's a great time to buy drum stuff form the United States,I recently purchased a Ludwig Black Beauty snare drum from the States. It's a fantastic sounding drum and very versatile, I think I saved around $350 off the Aussie retail price.

Demand for drum lessons has been high this term so I've added an extra day to my timetable. Some of these new students are adults that are returning to music after a long break or taking it up as a new hobby. It's great to see people discovering they have an aptitude for something they always wanted to do.

On the performing side I'm involved with several working covers bands including the Australian Blues Brothers Show, The Eagles Show,Rock My Soul,Panorama,Bliss Bomb and more. As well as this I'm really enjoying a new original music band with some excellent musicians including Paul Wheeler on bass (ex Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs) and Jonty Erwin on keys and a great young local guitarist Ivor Kennedy. it's groove based and funky which is right up my street. We are playing at some local venues soon. Please like us on Facebook!

Nowadays there is just so much information out there, a lot of it available for free on drums and drumming and how to play, it's almost overwhelming. Why bother paying to go and visit a drum tutor when you can find all the information you need for free?Well, teaching yourself to play the drums is perfectly ok for a minority of people,I am mostly self taught and I'm doing ok,though I later had to go back and correct many bad habits I'de 'taught myself' which manifested in not being able to play 'what I was hearing' through poor technique. Sure, videos can show you what you need to know but it's actually very difficult to analyze what your body is doing when you're having to concentrate so hard on just trying to do it!and the guy on the video is not going to be talking you through and correcting you as you go. A drum teacher can also really help to increase motivation by setting goals and acting as a mentor during the flat learning periods which everyone goes through. As you're playing advances he's someone you can bounce ideas off and help prepare you for performances. So,before you youtube the latest 'learn drums in 10 minutes' video

I strongly advise getting an introduction to drumming from a professional and get

a really good start even if you decide to goyour own way after a few lessons

at least then you'll know you're on the right track. As always feel free to mail me

with any drumming / music related questions. Thanks for Visiting!
